St. Joseph Catholic Church

French Settlement, Louisiana

Traditional design marries with fresh contemporary elements.

An accumulation of three small parishes came together in need of a new church. This cathedral design delicately assimilates fresh contemporary elements into an otherwise customary Catholic place of worship and offers its congregation an inviting and welcoming setting.

The design team involved the youth of the church in the design, which is evident in the full immersion baptismal font, located at the front entrance of the church, which is symbolic of entering the church in baptism. The 10,515 sq. ft. church was designed with the altar at the center and seating on three sides. The daily Mass chapel is located on the main axis of the church, and is separated from the altar platform by a full height decorative wall which holds banners for seasonal display.
