A facility to provide treatment services to meet the therapeutic mental health and medical needs of inmates adjudicated by the State of Louisiana.
The project team designed a multi building campus for the Elayn Hunt Correctional Facility. The project incorporated the construction of 5 new buildings including an Infirmary, Intake Processing Facility, Acute Mental Health Unit, Dormitory and a supporting Guard Tower. The 48 cell, two-story cell block was designed for mental-health patients. It provides for observation of all inmate cells, except the isolation cells, from the control room. The isolation cells have solid swinging doors. State-of-the-art electronic control panels control the operation of the doors and security cameras. The Skilled Nursing Unit houses 400 beds, mental health and AIDS-HIV unit. The existing site is located in St. Gabriel, Louisiana and the architectural vocabulary for the facility was derived from local building elements surrounding the facility.
