Concordia Parish Hospital

Ferriday, Louisiana

The new critical access hospital for the rural parish offers in-patient and out-patient services, an emergency department, surgical, and diagnostic services.

The new critical access hospital offers in-patient and out-patient services, an emergency department, surgical, and diagnostic services. The hospital accommodates 25 inpatient beds. Of the 25 beds, two are ICU and three are used as “swing beds” for skilled nursing or higher acuity levels of care. As the patient census ages, patient needs evolve; the new facility is constructed with the ability to adapt care modalities and to accommodate these changes.

Concordia Parish Hospital is designed for easy patient access to all services. We prioritized separating staff/patient traffic from public visitor traffic, as well as separating outpatient flow from inpatient flow. The open front configuration provides public and outpatient access to services, while a restricted back corridor is utilized for staff and service access. Department adjacencies are designed to maximize staffing efficiencies and reduce travel distances.

The main entrance handles all visitor and outpatient access. A separate public emergency entrance handles walk-in/drive-up emergency traffic and after-hours access. The ambulance entry is located separate from the public E.D. entrance.

A small pre-admitting exam clinic is provided near Imaging Reception and Registration to handle diagnostic & pre-admit testing. Lab services and most diagnostic testing services come to the patient to eliminate patient travel inconveniences. In addition to the dedicated x-ray room, portable x-ray machines are located in patient nursing units for convenience.

Full dietary services are included to provide in-house prepared meals for patients, staff and visitors. A café style dining area is open to the front mall area, and a vending area is provided adjacent to the E.D. and Inpatient Units for after-hours use.

The Nursing units are designed to promote patient privacy with family zones, nursing zones, abundant natural light, and a warm and soothing environment.
