The Edna Rizley Griffen 500-seat Concert Hall and support spaces strengthen the growing performing arts pro-grams for both the university and community.
The Edna Rizley Griffen Concert Hall is the heart of Colorado State University’s new University Center for the Arts. The state-of-the-art concert hall uses calculated geometry and carefully selected materials to create the ideal environment for both the student performers and audience. Our design was the result of three areas of focus. The foremost goal of any concert hall is achieving acoustical excellence. We also worked to incorporate the numerous sound and lighting elements into a dramatic and lasting design. Finally, we worked to make the environment feel distinctive to Colorado by taking inspiration from the regions unique natural environment.
The colors and undulating patterns were fashioned to evoke the rock strata found in mountain formations. The walls of audience chamber mimic the large, sculpted faces of the Rocky Mountains, while the fragmentation around the stage was inspired by the nearby rock quarries. This project was in association with SlaterPaull Architects.
