A strong desire for collaboration and next generation learning environments combined with the Guiding Principles became the driving force behind the preliminary schematic concept.
Grace Hebert Curtis Architects and associate architects DLR Group collaborated with the Ascension Parish Public School System to design the new middle school that accommodates 850 students in grades 6th-8th. The design vision for the school stems from several visioning meetings with the school district and a workshop with a group of Prairieville Middle School students.
The integration of natural light, color, and a sense of transparency and connectivity between the various interior spaces are all key components of the design. Core classroom spaces are organized around shared learning environments along the linear building. The media center, student commons and electives are located in the building’s core. This space serves as an integral hub of collaboration and activity for staff and students, allowing each grade level access to open areas of community and learning spaces.
